Beschreibung:	Symposion: Language(s) of Identity The notion of identity is interpreted, contested and recontextualized in a host of philosophical contexts; one attempts to formulate a single, effective criterion which would enable its determination, one tries to offer a stringent analysis of identity across time or even across possible worlds. Equally, the socio-political consequences which ensue from such a relational term are also reflected upon. Seeking a shift in focus, this symposium concentrates on the role language plays in these debates. It endeavors to bring to light and question the impact of language in cognizing relations of identity and in stipulating the latter’s constitutive elements. Furthermore, it will inquire into how an articulation of socio-political identity claims itself depends on bounded communities. Using an intercultural approach, this symposium would like to explore the advantages and challenges involved in thinking about identity through the prism of language.
