Katherine Hayles (Duke University): "Speculative Aesthetics" Steven Shaviro (Wayne State University): tba Scope & Aims This three-day conference engages with the recent speculative turn in continental philosophy and aesthetics. Hosted by the University of Basel’s Department of English, the conference is particularly interested in the implications of what could be termed the new speculative aesthetics for literary and cultural studies. We aim at staging a three-fold encounter: between aesthetics and speculation, between speculative realism and its (possible) precursors, and between speculative realism and art and literature. The Conference Venue & the Arts Venue All academic parts of the conference (keynotes, panels, editors' workshop) will take place on the ground floor of the beautiful Wildt'sches Haus (Petersplatz 13, Basel). Only the Art Event on the evening of Friday, September 14, will take place at another venue, the Kaskadenkondensator (Burgweg 7, Basel).
